Guided Hiking Tour through British Columbia’s Coast Mountain Wilderness, Accessed By Float Plane

The Coast Mountains of British Columbia offer a deep Canadian wilderness experience. This guided hiking tour takes place in the remote Cariboo Chilcotin Coast Region, in the Central Coast of British Columbia an area we are very passionate about and specialize in.

This is a float plane accessed wilderness area, where we offer our guided hiking tours  into the heart of the pristine and untouched Coast Mountains. Fly high above the Monarch Ice Fields to access a slice of Canadian backcountry paradise. Your days are spent on our guided hiking tours exploring the finest  alpine terrain with wonderful BC Adventure guides from our log cabin base set on a spectacular alpine lake.

The second half of the tour takes place in The Great Bear Rainforest of Bella Coola, where you will enjoy amazing Bear viewing with local biologists from our great bear lodge. You’ll explore the ocean fjords and the magnificence of the spirit bear rainforest through hikes and cultural areas of interest with plenty of wildlife viewing activities. This 7 day guided hiking tour in Canada is a combo of our other shorter BC Adventure Tours.

Arrivals Anahim Lake | Float Plane Into Back Country Wilderness

Begin your British Columbia Hiking Trip once guests arrive in the remote Chilcotin area of Anahim Lake. Your guides will pick you up from the local airport and bring you to the float plane base to gear up and get organized. An afternoon flight takes us into the backcountry alpine and cabin base, where we settle in and enjoy a light guided hike in this spectacular wilderness setting.

Wilderness Alpine Hiking | Chilcotin Wilderness

Spend the day exploring the beautiful alpine on a guided hike to a nearby glacier and wilderness valley. This is a wonderful way to start your Canadian hiking vacation in the Cariboo Chilcotin Coast backcountry of Central BC.

Float Plane | Scenic Flight Monarch Ice Fields & Coast Mountains | Canoeing & Wildlife Viewing Nimpo Lake

This morning, pack up your gear and prepare for the scenic flight out. Enjoy a scenic flight over the Monarch Ice Fields and stunning Coast Mountains back to our lodge on Nimpo Lake. Leisure activities include light hikes, reading, canoeing, and fishing. The lake offers great opportunities to view osprey, eagles, jumping trout, and busy beavers.

Journey To Bella Coola | Coastal Fjord Explorer & Hot Springs Tour | Bella Coola

Drive west to Bella Coola, entering the dramatic Bella Coola Valley and part of the Great Bear Rainforest. Set off for an afternoon private boat tour, exploring the fjords and coastal waterways around Bella Coola.

What's the Accommodation Like?

During your 7-day Coast Mountains BC Wilderness Adventure, you'll stay in a mix of comfortable lodge and private backcountry cabin accommodations. The lodges offer cozy and welcoming atmospheres, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure, equipped with modern amenities. The backcountry cabins provide a more rustic experience, with shared sleeping quarters that allow you to immerse yourself in the remote wilderness. Enjoy hearty meals prepared with fresh, local ingredients, and unwind in settings that blend rustic charm with contemporary comfort.

What's the Weather Like?

This tour takes place in two different areas. In the alpine backcountry of the West Chilcotin, expect warm late summers ranging from 13°C to -5°C. In the Great Bear Rainforest, expect cooler, wetter conditions with temperatures between 15°C and 0°C in September. Be prepared for four seasons in one day.

How Fit Do I Need To Be?

Our hiking tours are not suitable for beginner hikers and suit intermediate to strong hikers. Hikers should have good cardio fitness, be comfortable with uphill walking, and able to hike up to 5-7 hours and 7 km daily with varied terrain. Day packs are required for day hikes from the cabin base.

What's The Terrain Like?

Wilderness hiking with a mix of alpine meadows, rocky scree slopes, stream crossings, and steep ascents/descents. Trails are unmarked, requiring sure-footedness and good balance.
