Embark on a remarkable journey through the The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast starting in The Great Bear Rainforest of Bella Coola.This carefully crafted itinerary will have you experience the raw beauty and incredible wildlife of British Columbia’s Central Interior, with a variety of differnet locations to view Grizzly Bears and other Canadian wildlife at its finest.

From scenic flights and river drift tours to gentle walks amoungst giant cedar trees and cultural insights, each day is designed to immerse you in the heart of this pristine wilderness. Discover the ancient cedar groves, encounter grizzly bears in their natural habitat, and learn about the region’s unique ecology and indigenous heritage. Arrivals Bella Coola , River Drift Grizzly Bear Tour

There are many scenic flights you can take in this world, but the one from Vancouver to Bella Coola certainly ranks among the top. Flying along the spine of the Pacific Coast Mountains on Pacific Coastal Airlines, it is a breathtaking 75-minute flight. It will send you soaring, physically and spiritually, over the endless fjords, ice fields, and beautiful Great Bear Rainforest of British Columbia.

As you look out the window on your flight, you will be amazed by the abundance of glacial ice. It is a sparkling introduction to your Great Bear Nature Tour. Landing in the deep glacially carved Bella Coola wilderness valley, you are astounded from the moment your guides will pick you up from the airport and whisk you away into this breathtaking natural paradise.

This afteroon well be meeting our local Bear Biologist guide for our first Grizzly Bear River drift tour down the Atnarko River. This river is a nursery for many Sow Grizzlies who bring their young to teach them how to feed for Salmon during the fall months. We'll learn about this unique ecosystem and wildlife habitat in depth from our local guide as we search fro Grizzlies.

Ocean Fiord Estuary Tour & Grizzly Bear Viewing

Rising among giant cedar trees and beautiful, deeply carved valleys, we embark on a private boat tour into the South Bentinck Arm to cruise the fjords in search of wildlife. Join our local Bella Coola skipper for a peacful and exciting boat tour to Eagle Rocks , where we'll view Eagles in abundance. Then were off deeper into the fjords to see seals, dolphins, bears, and more with towering mountains rising from the ocean floor.

Discover the magnificent Great Bear Rainforest, one of the most pristine and diverse ecosystems in the world. Learn about the rich local flora and fauna on this beautiful boat tour up close with marine life . Your skipper will make a few speacil stops to view Grizzly Bears feeding along local side streams, in the river beds that flow into the Fiord. Often these areas are rich not only with spawning Salmon but with local grasses and other delicacies this time of year. We'll also head over to a remote historic 1920's Cannery, offering a rich history of the BC Canning era from the early 1900s.

This evening we'll enjoy yet annotehr lovely meal and relaxation at our local lodge.

River Drift Grizzly Bear Wildlife viewing | Bella Coola

Rising early were off on another private River Boat with a famous local Bear Bilogist to doscover the world of all things Grizzly Bears, as we drift down the beautiful Atnarko River. Teeming with Salmon this time of year, this quiet river drift boat offers us an up close National Geographic experience with wildlife such as Grizzly bears,Black Bears, river otters, and a variety of local birds. King Fisher, Bald Eagles and more all join us in the Atnarko River for a wonderful opportunity to be amoungst Canadian wildlife at its finest.

This afternoon, your guide will bring you to explore some other local Bear Wildlife hotpsots of the Valley. We know just the right local areas with fruit trees or side streams to capture them with our cameras. Patience and a keen eye will have us discovering more Canadian wildlife at its finest.

This evening we'll enjoy a lovely dinner at our local lodge with cascading waterfalls and perhaps a bear or two to marvel at.

Scenic Float Plane Flight - Monarch Icefields

This morning after breakfast we'll be packing up our gear and heading off to the West Chilcotin Wilderness. Along the way your guides will be making a few stops to enjoy Bear viewing. We'll be heading east up to the beautiful and timelss Chilcotin Plateau, where open big skies and remote Canadian wilderness awaits us. This area is quite a dramatic change from the lush coastal rainforest, but is equally as breathtaking with its snowcapped peaks and endless glaciers, dry desert like terrain and wonderful wildlife.

This afternoon after arriving at our lakeside lodge on Nimpo Lake, we’re off on a beautiful scenic float plane flight in a classic Dehavilland Beaver Float Plane. Soar over the Monarch Icefields and experience some of the largest icefields outside the Polar regions.

Turquoise blue glacier lakes and never-ending glaciers, along with remote wilderness, await you on this stunning 40-minute flight. This scenic flight was voted one of the Top 5 scenics in North America!

Tonight we'll enjoy a lovely meal at the lodge as we welcome the float planes arriving back from the wilderness.

Morning Birding & Quesnel Lake Cariboo Mountains Grizzly Habitat

This morning we will rise early to the call of the Canadian Loons, and we'll take an hour or so to enjoy some wonderful birdlife right out our log cabin doors on Nimpo Lake.

After a lovely breakfast we're heading east to the remote wilderness of The Cariboo Mountains, on Quesnel Lake. This lake is known as the deepest fiord lake in the world reaching over 610 Metres deep, and is a vital wilderness area with diverse landscapes, ranging from mountain peaks and tarn lakes in hanging alpine valleys, to extensive meadows, large wetland complexes, and ancient red-cedar and hemlock forests. These diverse habitats support an equally diverse array of wildlife species, and is home to a large number of Grizzly Bears.

The Salmon run up the Mitchel River offers a once in a lifetime unique opportunity to view Grizzly bears feeding.

Mitchell River, Cariboo Mountains | Bear Viewing with the Grizzly Whisperer

Today we'll be picked up from our remote lakeside cabins on the shores of Quesnel lake, and head out for a full day adventure by jet boat up the remote North Arm in the Cariboo Mountains. Here we're in for a special treat as we journey with the famous " Grizzly bear whisperer" who's been guiding these waterways and mountains for over 30 years. We'll be travelling into the Mitchell River, which is a prime Grizzly Bear habitat during the fall season. Also home to mountain goats, mountain caribou, cougar, grizzly bear, black bear, moose, deer, wolf, trout, spawning salmon and bald eagles, loons, osprey, kingfishers and more. Have your camera ready!

We'll get a wonderful experience of Grizzly bear viewings, in the interior rainofrest of Central British Columbia. One of our favourite locations in BC.

This evening will be spent with a lovely dinner and bonfire back at our log cabin based lodge, watching the sun set on the shores of Quesnel Lake.

After a final morning in this breathtaking wilderness, we return to Williams Lake for departure, reflecting on the unforgettable bear viewing experiences and stunning landscapes of the Great Bear Rainforest, West Chilcotin wilds and the remote Cariboo Mountains. This unique Canadian wildlife adventure will be unforgettable and offer us a truly unique insight into Grizzly Bear habitat ranging from the Coast to the Interior of beautiful British Columbia.

The Details

This 7 day tour will be led by our lead wilderness guide, as he take you step by step into The Great bear Rainforest to meet the best local Biologists and operators in the Region. You’ll be well taken care of with your own private guide, and Bear Viewing tours and drift boats and jet boats will all be on a private basis – chartered just for your small group.

This is a wilderness nature journey, offering plenty of additional opportunities to not only experience viewing Bears but also other Canadian Wildlife along the way.

Accommodations will be a mix of 3-4 star lodges and private log cabins set in incredible scenery with the top of the line views to be inspired at. Meals will be a mix of beautiful evening dinners at the lodges, and picnic style on the lunches – packed lunches for when we’re out and about exploring. Breakfatss will also be a mix of lodge based or a quick on the go as we head out early to capture the bears at dawn.

What's the Accommodation Like?

During your 7-day Grizzly Bear Viewing tour, you'll stay in comfortable lodge accommodations located in the Bella Coola Valley.

In the West Chilcotin you will stay in private log cabins set on a beautiful lake, and also on quesnel lake you'll have private cabins with a touhc of rustic. They all provide a cozy and welcoming atmosphere, perfect for relaxing after a day of adventure. Each lodge is equipped with modern amenities, ensuring a comfortable stay amidst the wild beauty of the The Cariboo Chilcotin Coast.

Enjoy hearty meals prepared with local ingredients, and unwind in a setting that blends rustic charm with contemporary comfort. The accommodations offer the perfect base for exploring this stunning region.

They are not 5 star luxury , but they are made with great comfort and cleanliness. Each room has their own bathroom. Price quoted is based on twin share.

Our wildlife viewing adventures are a softer style of experience, engaging with the wilderness areas we specialize in. These adventures are geared towards sightseeing with light and easier walks & hikes. These tours would suit beginner and less agile people looking to engage with nature in a more relaxed and easier style of walking/hiking. The pace is geared to connect with nature with more creature comforts such as staying at a lodge, and not in a backcountry cabin. These trips journey into The Great Bear Rainforest and offer an intimate wildlife viewing experience.
